2007 Le Belle Macchine d'Italia
Article ImagesEach year for the last 21 years some of Italy’s best have shown up at the SkyTop lodge in the Pocono mountains for the largest gathering of Italian cars on the east coast. From June 22-25, Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis and more participate in a conours on Saturday, and many also head to Pocono International Raceway for track days on Sunday and Monday. The combination of events makes Le Belle Macchine d'Italia the largest 3 day Italian automotive event in North America. Over 350 automobiles participated in this year’s event. The event also serves as a meeting place for local and national Italian car clubs. Participating clubs and meets included the Lamborghini Owners National Meet sponsored by Automobili Lamborghini, Maserati Owners National Meet sponsored by Maserati Club International, the Historic Maserati Reunion, East Coast Annual Ferrari Meet sponsored by Ferrari of Central New Jersey, Iso Bizzarrini Owners East Coast Annual Meet, DeTomaso Owners East Coast Annual Meet, and the Alfa Romeo Owners East Coast Annual Meet. The Saturday concours was blessed with excellent weather, and participants and spectators enjoyed the dozens of cars on the grassy lawns of the Skytop lodge. Everything from classic Macchine to modern supercars like a duo of Maserati MC12’s that was on display next to classic examples of the marque. Also highlighted was Bizzarini, including a one-of-two 5300 GT Spyder won best of show. The track event played an important role in the event, especially for those who wanted to do more than just show off their vehicles. Many took the opportunity to just enjoy their street cars, while others got to exercise their fully race-prepped vehicles, including the owner of a wickedly fast Ferrari 333 SP. Even a few other non-Italian cars came out to play including Porsches, Corvettes and a Spyker. As with past years, Lamborghini was offering rides on the track in exchange for a small donation to charity, and many took the opportunity for their turn as copilot in the new Gallardo Superleggera. Overall the 2007 Le Belle Macchine d Italia was a huge success. The weather provided a wonderful atmosphere, everyone was able to enjoy an excellent concours with a variety of fine Italian machinery, and the two day track event was wonderful for drivers and spectators alike.
